Whelan Industries has been manufacturing boiling water units for over 40 years. The History of Whelan Industries runs in parallel with the growing popularity in the usage of boiling water units throughout Victoria’s education system.

When the Dynamicboil SL Series of Whelan Electrical Boiling Water Unit’s was invented in the 1960s, it was being approved by the then SECV, Board of Works and the Public Works Department. The latter was in charge of building new schools throughout Victoria at the time and the idea of using boiling water units was later adopted by the Education Department. This remarkable invention started the usage of Whelan Boiling Water Units within the Victorian Education System.

In July 1994, an Energy audit conducted in 23 Victoria Schools by SECV in conjunction with the Department of School Education highlighted the energy savings by automatically switching off the appliances when not in use. This led to the invention of the Whelan Timerboil.

In the late 1990s, schools were looking for more flexible and yet functional designs for their boiling water units. The invention of the Whelan Thermal Tap allowed boiling water unit to be installed under the sink. This removed some of the shackles imposed by the wall mounted boiling water units.

In the early 2000s, filtered water was in vouge. The idea of combining filtered water with boiling water became reality with the invention of the Whelan Twin Tap.

Throughout the history of Whelan, we have had a very close relationship with the School Education System. Whelan not only supplies boiling water to suit school requirements, but also services and maintains all the different brands of boiling water units in schools. Some of your boiling water units might still be the original Whelan units from the 1960s.

There are two main types of boiling water units in the market, namely, wall mounted and under bench and within each group, there are a number of different choices and options to satisfy your requirements. Each model of the Whelan range of boiling water units, whether wall-mounted or under-bench, has been purposely built with its own unique characteristics. And the motto of Simplicity, Reliability, Durability and Low Maintenance has set Whelan products apart from all others.
